Kabul (BNA) President Karzai by cutting the ribbon opened the construction work on the Shah and Urus power generating dam in Shakardara area of Kabul.
Accompanied by ministers of water and energy Ismayel Khan and economy minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwa, national Security Council advisor Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, Kabul Governor Ahmadullah Alizai and members of the National Assembly opened this very important project.
In his address to the audience president Karzai drew the attention of the people to the high rise mountains of the country and the natural resource that could be built up with the efforts of the people.
He added that the international community has no long-term cooperation program with Afghanistan and building of dams are out own responsibility, we shall find budget for them and will carry on this task.
He stressed that we should not wait for the international community to work for us as they have their own programs and where they want they work and do nothing other areas.
As other nations this is duty to work for our country. The minister of water and energy said that this is an important project that besides producing power will provide drinking water for the Kabul residents and irrigation water for land underlying the dam.
It has been contracted with a credible company and will cost USD38 million and will be completed in four years.
The dam will produce 1.2 Megawatts of power shall irrigate 2700 hectares of land and supply drinking water for Kabul residents. The project is an important scheme that will create jobs for 500 jobless Afghans during its completion process.
