Transit MoU Signed Between Chabahar Port and Private Sector of Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the General Directorate of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran, and the Afghan private sector in order to establish and expand transit and investment co-operation.
Regarding the signing of the MoU with the Afghan private sector, Behrouz Aghaei, Director General of Sistan and Baluchestan Ports and Maritime, stated: “Considering the good relations of the two countries, this MoU is intended for the development of transit and investment of the Afghan private sector in transportation, logistics and transit activities through Chabahar port within the framework of the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He added: “Under the agreement, the Afghan private sector pledged to create freight traffic, attract and transport transit cargo from Afghanistan through the port of Shahid Beheshti in Chabahar to target markets. In accordance with the created traffic, discounts and incentives approved by the Ports and Maritime Organization will be granted to the owners of goods and cargo from Afghanistan.”
Transit co-operation between Chabahar port and Afghanistan has been growing significantly in recent years, and it continued this year, despite the limitations caused by the outbreak of coronavirus, so that during this period, 2665 TEU of goods from Afghanistan was transported to its destinations through Chabahar port.
