Afghanistan`s Exports To Be Increased By 20 pc This Year

Kabul (BNA) Officials of ministry of commerce and industries have expressed optimism that the country’s exports will be increased by 20% during the current year.
Talking on the matter, deputy minister of commerce and industries of Afghanistan Muzammil Shinwari told in a news briefing that beside our internal efforts, government of Afghanistan has also formulated a comprehensive foreign trade policy and trying to expand bilateral commerce and trade relations with neighboring Pakistan. Ministry of commerce and industries for further promotion of commerce and business has undertaken serious of important measure including ratification of national trade policy law to further support domestic productions and to develop small capacity business culture in joint cooperation with the USAID and WB. Said Muzammil Shinwari deputy minister of commerce and industries of Afghanistan, adding that talks are underway with some gulf and Arab states to increase exports of fresh fruits from Afghanistan to their markets and during the previous year nearly five thousand tons of fresh fruits exported to these markets and exporters attained tangible advantage from the business activity. Deputy minister of commerce and industries emphasized that Afghanistan has major potentials for cultivation of saffron herb and rest of the agricultural products including carpet weaving industry and its expected that exports of the country is rises by 20% this year and added that commerce sector in Afghanistan is developing but business community and Afghan traders are confronting major challenges on their way due to obstructions created by neighboring Pakistan in defiance to bilateral trade and transit agreements signed between the two nations. Government of Afghanistan in already in negotiation with neighboring Pakistan and Tajikistan to settle trade and transit problems with these countries and further expansion of relation, the govt is also conducting talks with Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to further intensify its trade relations with the central Asian countries, he added. This came after economists have said that Afghanistan witnessed major economic development programs during 2012. Meanwhile, a number of fresh fruit retailers have expressed satisfaction over increase of their agricultural products to international markets including carpets. Previously, several international conferences held on Afghanistan to evaluate a number of important topics including investment opportunity, development of domestic productions and exports and imports and these sessions proved constructive measures for economic growth of the country.
