Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan is among vulnerable countries of natural disasters, lack of preventive measures and shortage of physical materials and facilities have caused our compatriots to lose their lives in natural disasters every year.
BNA analyst commenting on the issue writes, recently a conference on the occasion of international day on reduction of natural disasters was held to talk about natural disasters and to adopt effective measures in order to reduce the casualties and damages caused by natural disasters. The natural horrible disasters in 1392 proved that how vulnerable is Afghanistan from natural disasters. Natural disasters such as landslide in Barikab-Argo district of Badakhshan province, horrible floods in Jozjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Badghis, Logar, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces caused heavy casualties and financial damages. Also seasonal snowing and heavy raining which cause the vising water of the rivers which leads to the destructive of roads and agricultural fields, all these indicate that our country is faced to a serious and fatal menace of natural disasters, while there is no proper preventive measure against the threat. According to the relevant authorities only in 1392 as a result of natural disasters 727 lost their lives, 104 people injured and 12720 houses and over 43333 across of agricultural lands damaged.
The above figures show that alongside terrorist activities the wrath of nature also claims the lives of our poor people and cause heavy destructions. Although, prevention of natural disaster is in possible in this situations, but can reduce the casualties and destructions to its lowest by adopting effective and practicable measures. So, the relevant organs and authorities using their previous experiences should take effective measures for reduction of the fatal consequences of natural disasters and to provide family essential materials and shelters for the victims of unpredicted disasters, before the occurrence of a disaster.
