Coronaviruses are a type of virus. There are many different kinds, and some cause disease. A newly identified type has caused a recent outbreak of respiratory illness now called COVID-19 that started in China from December 2019.
Recent information indicates COVID-19 may be passed from person to person. Community spread is being seen, also. Community spread means people have been infected with the virus in a particular area, including some people who are not sure how or where they became infected. COVID-19 has been detected in people throughout China and in over 160 other countries and territories, including Afghanistan.
It appears that symptoms are showing up in people within 14 days of exposure to the virus.
If you have a fever or any kind of respiratory difficulty such as coughing or shortness of breath, call doctor or a health care provider and explain your symptoms over the phone before going to the doctor’s office, urgent care facility or emergency room.
Afghanistan government has allocated $25 million for the Public Health Ministry to combat the virus, $18mn of which are allocated to specific areas and provincial-based needs. The World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Republic of China, and World Health Organization have pledged financial and technical cooperation with Afghanistan, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
The border province of Herat is the frontline of Afghanistan’s efforts to contain the virus, as thousands of people cross the border there from Iran -one of the world’s worst-affected countries every day.
Herat was the first province where the first positive coronavirus case was reported in Afghanistan.
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Public Health, the number of positive cases of coronavirus in Afghanistan has reached 22.
The people those infected to coronavirus recently have entered from Iran and they are residents of Herat, Balkh, Daykundi, Kapisa, Badghis and Logar provinces.
