ANM Celebrates 100 Years Establishment On The Occasion Of Museum World Day

Kabul (BNA) With few thousand years background, Afghanistan experienced in itself great civilizations and numerous ancient relics and monuments are hidden in its soil that as a result of excavations and diggings that taken place in various parts of the country, over thousands historical works that are indicator of gloriousness of ancient civilizations of this country have been gained.
Focusing on the historical works unveiled during excavations, despite Afghan National Museum (ANM) of Kabul, other museums were also opened in the cities of Herat, Maimana, Ghazni, Balkh and Kandahar as well that now, the museum of Herat replaced in itself over 4000 historical works.
To keep healthy, the historical works, the national museum was established in 1918 in Bagh-e-Bala area of Kabul.
In first years of national museum, the manuscripts of Holy Quran, handicrafts, the works remained from Anglo-Afghan war in 1919 and some other rare books were kept in it.
Then this museum shifted from Bagh-e-Bala to Arg in Aqrab 25, 1303 and was officially inaugurated by King Amanullah Khan.
In the first constitution of Afghanistan that was approved during the reign of Ghazi Amanullah Khan, an article of this constitution was allotted for protection of historical works of the country.
Based on this law, the excavation department of museum should work under supervision of ministry of education.
The important works of this department was discovery of historical works and protection of these works as well as their transferring to national museum. During the reign of king Zahir Shah, when Afghanistan got the membership of UNESCO, considering this that the Afghanistan was known as a country that its historical works remained intact, focused the attention of domestic and foreign excavators, that in this period, some of its historical works have been registered as UNESCO historical works and through this, Afghanistan got the membership of this organization.
During the government of Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan and with discovery of historical works on daily-base, were transferring to national museum of Kabul. This museum was changed into a center of important historical riches in the region.
One of specifications of national museum of Afghanistan was this that all historical  of this museum that now is located in Darul Aman. Till 1992 this museum replaced in itself about 100000 historical works and were damaged as a result of wars, in 2003, its rehabilitation was begun again and after one year completed.
Works have been gained were exhibited. It should be mentioned regretfully this museum that was unparalleled in the region, as a result of civil wars in 70s like other aspects of life, it sustained much damages or smuggled by smugglers to overseas.
The museum possesses over 40000 historical works that majority of them are belong to Greco-Bacterian, Kushanids and Islamic periods.
There are some historical relics from top of Islam that the manuscript of holy Quran in Kufic letter related to third caliph of Islam Hazrat-i- Osman.
Miniature of Kamaluddin Behzad is another historical work that this manuscript and others were transferred to National Archive and National Gallery after their inauguration and are kept in them.
It is our duty to safeguard our historical places and historical works and no permit any one and mafia of historical relics, through their illegal and unprofessional excavations harm our historical riches.
