First-Ever Tourism Festival Held in Badakhshan

Kabul (BNA) For the first time, World Tourism Day was celebrated in Badakhshan province one of the best views in Afghanistan BNA reported the other day.
Besides this festival, a big cultural festival was held aimed to bolster tourism a tourists’ attraction to Badakhshan, the agency added.
Deputy Minister of information and culture on tourism affairs Sayeda Mojgan Mostafavi said it was making effort to organize such festivals to introduce the historical and natural views of Badakhshan in order to attract domestic and foreign tourists’ attention.
The festival would continue for three days in Faiz Abad city gymnasium and it is hoped that besides government officials, culturists and foreign tourists, thousands of Afghans from different provinces of the country to visit there.
During this three-day festival, villagers’ handicrafts, Badakhshan’s precious stones and female farmers’ agricultural products as well as 400 types of meals and local cloths would be displayed.
In a ceremony to mark World Tourism Day in Badakhshan, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture on Tourism. Finance and Administrative Affairs, Sayeda Mojgan Mostafavi said Badakhshan was one of Afghanistan’s provinces with many historical and natural attractions that worth a lot to domestic and foreign tourists.
She added by holding such festivals and through informing domestic and foreign citizens, the ministry of information and culture is making effort to draw the attention to Badakhshan and Afghanistan’s historical-natural views.
She said bolstering tourism and establishing facilities to domestic and foreign tourists would help grow Afghanistan’s economy and besides, Afghan citizens and would people would know more about Afghanistan’s civilization, rich culture and natural views.
Pointing at existence of countless historical places and unique natural views in Afghanistan, President Ghani and CE Abdullah in their messages asked the ministry of information and culture to prepare its plans for net and other years in a bid to improve tourism industry in Badakhsshan and entire Afghanistan.
Badakhshan provincial director of information and culture Naqibullah Saqib said despite insecurities, Badakhshan was still a province where usually being visited by domestic and foreign tourists.
Based on figures released by him, this year, 260 foreign and 12000 domestic tourists visited the historical places and natural views of Badakhshan province.  He added to prepare the ground and increase the number of domestic and foreign tourists, six tourist companies have so far been registered. He called insecurities and presence of insurgent groups in some parts of Badakhshan is the only challenge before growing tourism industry.
