Minister Safi: Afghan Women Having Effective Role in Peace Process

Kabul (BNA) Acting Minister of Information and Culture attended a joint news briefing titled ‘Women as Element of Peace and Tranquility’ with Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Retno Marsudi.
In the news briefing, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs by expressing happiness about meeting and discussion with Afghan women ley by Hasina Safi added Indonesia with its 87 percent of Muslim population was a country where democracy has developed unprecedentedly. “For the first time in its history, Indonesia had a woman President from 2001-2004. For the first time, a woman is the speaker of parliament and minister of finance is also a woman and I’m also the first minister of foreign affairs,” Ms. Retno Marsudi said. Pointing to Afghanistan peace process, the Indonesian minister of foreign affairs said they wanted lasting peace in Afghanistan. “In my discussions with my President, Afghanistan government, US administration and government officials of Pakistan, Norway, Germany and other countries, I’ve further concentrated to role of Afghan women in bringing peace to their country,” Ms. Marsudi added.
She assured of continued cooperation with Afghanistan and international community in the country’s peace process.
“Through open discussion and exchanging views, Indonesia wants to have clear image of situation of Afghan women in Afghanistan and we’re ready to hear you as we can work and use our common experiences through discussion for peace and tranquility of Afghanistan,” Ms. Marsudi stressed shed added that the program was aimed to hear Afghan women and discuss role of Afghan women in various fields, promotion of the culture of peace and solidarity, acceptance of values of power and at the end implementation of debates. Afterwards, Acting Minister of Information and Culture in her speech pointed to strengthening of confidence among Afghan women and their role as messengers of peace added the government of Afghanistan considered supported of the Indonesian government towards peace in Afghanistan as effective and was asking for expansion and consolidation of such relations, saying that experiences of the Indonesian women in reaching to current position could play effective role in reaching Afghan women in their goals.
Safi said holding such programs pave the way for further coordination in reaching their common goal which was the strengthening of role of Afghan women in various fields, adding that recently National Consensus of Afghan Women for Peace led by executive committee of the First Lady Office, High Peace Council, Ministry of Women Affairs, MoIC, Afghan Women Network, civil society and all women has been held in capita and provinces for effectiveness and inclusiveness of peace process. She added that three questions regarding introduction of peace, problems and challenges ahead of peace and ways of solutions have been discussed. In her speech, Acting Minister of Information and Culture by pointing to programs and steps taken by Afghan government towards supporting the Afghan women in various field added peace was a continued process starting from dialogue and ending with implementation of articles of the peace agreement.
