Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in a ceremony held yesterday on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day said tuberculosis is a deadly disease and causes more death due to lack of awareness among the people of Afghanistan.
In the ceremony, the country’s chief executive by praising MoPH, TB Partners Board and international organizations for their efforts asserted there were lots of way to fight TB and good achievements have been accomplished in this field.
“TB is curable and preventive and patients suffering TB are freely cured in health centers countrywide.  Therefore, the country’s citizens should visit health centers soon after they face with early TB symptoms and continue their treatment until full recovery,” Dr. Abdullah said, adding that lack of consideration to the disease, incompletion of its treatment term and a range of curing traditions are all causes of TB continuation.
The country’s chief executive asked various government organizations to fully cooperate fighting the disease in the country.
In the ceremony, minister of public health Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz said that tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide in particular Afghanistan as between 10,000- 17,000 people die annually in the country.
Minister of public health informed of increasing further TB curing centers in the country, adding that 47,000 incidents of TB were registered and cured last year in Afghanistan.
Dr. Feroz further said that five-year strategy has been codified for controlling TB in the country and it would be effective if implemented in cooperation with various government institutions.
