World Breastfeeding Week Marked in Kabul

Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) celebrated yesterday the World Breastfeeding.
In a ceremony held on this occasion at Sapidar Palace, Chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah considered holding the ceremony as key step towards public awareness, saying that breastfeeding is the best way for growing and increasing the body resistance of babies.
Stressing on importance of breastfeeding, the country’s chief executive asserted that attention and investment on breastfeeding would help us reach enduring development.
Meanwhile, minister of public health Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz considered breast milk as a gift of the Almighty Allah to the new-born babies, saying that breastfeeding can increase up the resistance of children against various diseases.
“Researches have shown that feeding the new-born babies with breast milk in particular during the first hours after the birth can reduce 22 percent child mortality, therefore, mothers should regularly give their babies breast milk for the years,” Dr. Feroz said.
In the ceremony, acting minister of labor, social affairs and martyrs and disabled Sayed Anwar Sadat said that due the fact that breast milk was so important for new born babies, 156 kindergartens have been created for mothers to properly give their babies their breast milk, adding that the ministry was making effort to increase services in kindergartens of the country.  It is worth mentioning that the World Breastfeeding Week is marked between August 1-7 in all countries of the world where various gathering and workshops are held in connection with benefits and importance of breastfeeding.  Also, World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) that aims to inform, anchor, engage and galvanize action on breastfeeding and related issues.
