Kabul (BNA) Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul is leaving for Turkey on Sunday to attend the World Economic Forum on Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia in Istanbul, an official said on Saturday.
The forum will focus on Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia and relations among these regions.
The theme of the forum is “Roadmaps for Reform, Pathways to Inclusive Growth”.
About 1,000 leaders of governments, business, media and non-governmental organizations are scheduled to participate in the event.
Later, the minister would visit China to represent Afghanistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, slated for July 6, Foreign ministry spokesman Jsanan Musazai told a news conference in Kabul.
Participants of the meeting would confer on various issues, including the economic situation, the political landscape in Gulf countries and regional security.
Musazai said Rassoul’s participation in the summit would further improve Afghanistan’s ties with SCO member countries.
Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are members of the organization, founded on June 15, 2001.
Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iran and Mongolia have the status of observers while Turkmenistan attends SCO gatherings as guest nation.
Musazai said President Hamid Karzai would also participate in the summit, where he is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart.
He said the presidents would announce their willingness on signing a strategic cooperation agreement.
“The two leaders will announce on the occasion that they want to have a strategic cooperation agreement,” the spokesman concluded.
