Nominees For IEC General Secretary Post Interviewed

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has interviewed with the nominees for the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Secretary General post the other day, the presidential press office said in a statement.
Six individuals picked as eligible for the post had been interviewed, directly by the country’s president, Second Vice-President Sarwar Danesh and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, said the statement.
The interviewed individuals included Khaja Mohammad Asami, Ahmadullah Archiwal, Imam Mohammad Warimach, Abdul Raheem Daud Raheemi, Popla Habibi, Abdul Aziz Samim, Ahmad Shah Zamanzai and Sayed Jamaluddin Sahebzada, among whom, one would be picked for the slot, according to the statement. Under the new article 22 of the new electoral law, both IEC and Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) have to select the eligible nominees through a transparent process and their list should be sent to the presidential office for approval, the statement added. A candidate for the post was reportedly in an official trip out of the country, the statement concluded.
