Kabul (BNA) A Taliban suicide bomber martyred at least 13 people and wounded several more in an attack on a convoy of Afghan soldiers in southern Helmand province here on Sunday, an official said.
“A suicide bomber detonated an explosive-filled car as the Afghan National Army convoy passed a small market in Nawa District of Helmand,” Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the provincial governor said.
The deadly assault came days after a Taliban suicide bomber martyred five civilians and wounded dozens of others, mainly children, when he detonated a car filled with explosives at a police headquarters in Lashkar Gah, Helmand’s capital.
Meanwhile Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah denounced the attack on Afghan forces, praising Afghan forces for their bravery in fight against the insurgents in Helmand province.
“Afghans are proud of their security forces and asking them to fully eliminate mercenaries and irreligious enemies of Afghanistan the same as they did in other provinces,” Dr. Abdullah was quoted in a statement released from his office yesterday.
Dr. Abdullah went on saying that necessary instruction was given to provincial and central officials to spare no effort in treatment of those injured in the attack. He also said Taliban’s such attacks further create haters among the public and gives moral to Afghan forces to be further determined in suppressing of their country’s enemies.
