President Ghani Thanks ADB Assistance To Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Wencai Zhang, Vice-president of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) here on the sideline of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on Thursday, a presidential statement said.

Expressing gratitude over attending the SOM meeting in Kabul, ADB Vice-president said his organization was preparing a strategy which would also include Afghanistan.
“We will include different mechanisms so that to fund big projects as well as to focus on public private partnerships, “ he said, adding ADB will prioritize projects such as railway constructions, energy, transport, agriculture, water management and human resources.
He meanwhile said ABD supports Afghan government’s development agenda and would prioritize their programs in line with Afghan government’s programs.
Welcoming ADB Voice president to Afghanistan, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanked ADB’s assistance to Afghanistan and applauded the organization’s programs for public private partnerships.

“Our plan in to build railway inside Afghanistan as well as to connect it with regional countries, including China and Iran, “the president said.
Meanwhile the president asked ADB Vice-president to ease cooperation with Afghan government in line with designing of the projects, reducing the cost of the projects and the project’s quality.  He also asked for ADB’s leading role on creation of regional transit, aiming to increase commerce and boost the economy of the regional countries.

“We also focus on producing of solar and wind power.  It would be better if the Asian Development Bank cooperate in line with the training of the Afghans in management of the projects and contracts.  As there were legal barriers before and led to delaying of several projects,” the president said.
ADB Vice-president said will include Afghan government’s demands, in particular those of projects’ maintenance, cost of the projects and Afghans’ training of the project managements in their new strategy.
