Kandahar University’s Students From Across Afghanistan Sign of National Unity, President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his accompanied delegation who traveled to Kandahar for an official visit, were welcomed at the Kandahar International Airport by the provincial civil and military officials here yesterday, a presidential statement said.
According to the statement, the president participated in an event in National University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kandahar which was also attended by a number of students and lecturers.
Kandahar University rector Dr. Hazrat Mir Totakhel besides welcoming President Ghani and the accompanying delegation to the province, enumerated a number of the Kandahar University’s activities, including its connection with international universities.
He meanwhile called Kandahar University a national one, saying many lecturers and students from 34 provinces of the country were teaching and studying and no one were allowed to engage with political activities.
“The water and environment section has been opened in Kandahar University which led to Afghanistan’s membership of the International Water Association,” he said, adding the university was also owning equipped laboratory, library and agricultural farm.
Meanwhile he called for government’s attention towards the training of the lecturers, financial independence, follow up of the India’s commitment to Agricultural Sciences and Technology University, solving of the land issue with ministry of agriculture and opening of the master-degree branch in the university. The Kandahar University lecturer Nesar Ahmad Arya praised the efforts of the university’s lecturers, asking government to ease master degree and Ph.D. scholarships for them. Representing the students, Safa Ludin and Mahboob Rasoul asked government’s serious attentions towards the university’s dormitory, transport for the female lecturers, scholarships for the female students, activation of internet and providing of potable water. They meanwhile proposed establishment of TV department in journalism faculty of the said university.
Congratulating the university over taking the first position, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said he was there to thank the university staffs and the students for achieving the first position. He also called presence of the students from different provinces, sign of national unity and calling them the proud of Afghanistan.
President Ghani said Kandahar University would earn financial independence and the land would be given to Agricultural Sciences and Technology University. The president said he would follow the commitments made by India to the said university. Addressing the students, the president called them the great generation who would bring peace and stability to the country. “Afghanistan has been turning the crossroad of the Asia and the country’s stability means the Asia’s stability.
