President Ghani Stress Better Telecom Services

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with acting minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology as well as with the ministry’s officials, stressed the need for better telecom services, a presidential statement said.
According to the statement, the meeting discussed delivery of the best telecom services, especially through satellite, internet acceleration and contracts.  The ministry of communication said it had signed a contract for satellite telecom services with a French company in 2014.  The agreement period has expired.
The Ministry’s officials said new contract is being negotiated with South Asia Satellite and the process will be completed next week, adding people would have satisfactory access to telecommunications services.
Meanwhile the President said the people were not happy with the services, asking the ministry concerned to work on enhancing its internal capacity, evaluating all telecom networks and offer a clear analysis thereof.
About the contract procurement process, he said all the details and information should be discussed at the meeting of the Economic High Council.
President Ghani emphasized greater focus on providing improvement telecom services, adding more work was needed to strengthen the telecom sector.
The President went on saying the system of telecommunication should be clearly evolved so as ensure quality and standards.  He instructed the authorities concerned to provide guidelines from to telecom companies to deliver improved services to citizens and strengthen their systems.
