President Ghani Meets US Secretary of Defense

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met yesterday with the United States Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, at Gul Khana Palace.
Both sides discussed counter terrorism in Afghanistan and the region, counter narcotics and security of up-coming elections.
While welcoming the US Secretary of Defense and accompanied delegation to Kabul, President Ghani praised the US for its continued cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields in particular counter terrorism effort.
The country’s President said that US strategy for South Asia and Afghanistan has changed the environment and provided opportunity for peace process, therefore NUG offered peace program to the Taliban group and comprehensive dialogue to Pakistan government.
President Ghani also asserted that Afghanistan government was working on a plan for repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan, stressing that repatriation and resettlement of the Afghan refugees help in peace and stability of Afghanistan.
In the meeting, US Secretary of Defense by praising ANDSF for their bravery and sacrifices towards counter terrorism and maintaining security said the US was supporting Afghanistan government’s peace offer with Taliban, offer of dialogue to Pakistan and repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
James Mattis, the US Secretary of Defense, once again stressed on his country’s continued support from Afghanistan for suppressing terrorism as common enemy.
In the meeting, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also praised the US for its continued cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields in particular military and considered continuation of such cooperation as key for counter terrorism.
