President Ghani Receives US Defense Secretary

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in a meeting with the US’s Defense Secretary of state Gen. James Mattis discussed some key Afghanistan and regional issues, including peace and security, positive US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, reforms in security and defense sector, presidential, parliamentary and district council elections, fighting terrorism and peace talks with Pakistan, a statement from the Presidential Palace said Friday.
During the meeting attended by CE Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Mattes praised the national unity government (NUG) in different fields, particularly in war on terrorism, reforms and fighting corruption as well as the Afghan armed forces courage, the statement added.
He said the US would stay alongside the government and people of Afghanistan, until reaching full security and lasting prosperity, according to the statement.
The US defense secretary said his country would continue cooperating Afghanistan in security, economic and strengthening of his country welfare cooperation with Afghanistan, the statement quoted.
The leaders of the national unity government lauded the US cooperation in various field, with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanking him for his equipment and financing the Afghan security and defense forces, said the people of Afghanistan wanted lasting peace and stability.
