“UNSC Should Independently Review Attack on a Specific Afghan Ethnic,” VP Danesh

Kabul (BNA) Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh in a meeting with head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Tadamichi Yamamo to stressed that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) should independently review attack on a specific Afghan ethnic, BNA reported on Tuesday.
The VP’s demand raised following recent terror attacks in western part of the capital Kabul, which resulted in Killing and injuring dozens of innocents, the agency added.
VP Danesh called the attacks purposeful in which a specific group is being targeted, BNA continued.
Expressing concern over attack on the country ordinary citizens, UN special representative in Afghanistan said he would ask UN related organizations including UN human rights council to clarify their stance in the respect.
He assured he would share VP’s demand with UNSC in charges.
Both sides also discussed journalists’ security and safety.
Pointing at recent terrorist attacks in which a number of journalists and media staff have been victimized, Mr. Yamamoto asked the government of Afghanistan to do more for ensuring security and safety of journalists, BNA continued.
Stating that journalists and media are one of the terrorist groups’ objectives, VP Danesh said media and government joint committee led by him, has provided a procedure on ensuring security and safety of journalists and efforts are underway to work on better measures in the respect.
Vice president Danesh said the government of Afghanistan was committed to support freedom of speech, giving information to citizens and ensure security and safety of media and journalists.
Both sides also discussed issues pertaining to parliamentary elections.
UN special representative said considering the determined timeline, the demand presented by political parties on changing electoral system and using technology in voting process impracticable and stressed on Independent Elections Commission efforts to satisfy the political parties in the respect.
Appreciating UN organization cooperation on issues related to elections, VP Danesh stressed on electoral commissions’ serious efforts on doing their tasks a legal obligations.
Stating the electoral commissions’ functions have recently been followed with achievements, VP Danesh asked IEC to hold parliamentary elections on its due time.
