Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive (CE) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, chaired the council of ministers’ meeting here yesterday at the Sapidar Palace, a statement said.
Addressing the inauguration session, Dr. Abdullah on Monday briefed the session on his recent visit to Tajikistan and meeting a number of leaders on the sideline of CICA summit.
Meanwhile in his address to the session, Dr. Abdullah termed the release of Taliban prisoners as ‘a goodwill gesture’ and said the step would not be seen as election campaign, the statement from the CE press office said.
Dr. Abdullah said,” The Afghan conflict has been ongoing for the past four decades and we don’t want to see thousands of people languish in jails for their entire life.”  The Chief Executive expressed his concern and said the outcome of the peace process was against people’s expectations but added the interest of the region and international community regarding peace and stability in the country had increased.  He hoped regional countries would bring pressure on Taliban militants in order the ongoing peace efforts gave a positive income.  He also termed regional conscience as important for the peace process and said no one could bring peace to the country individually.  He urged all security organs and related institutions to cooperate with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) during the ongoing voter registration process.
