President Ghani Briefs Kandahar Residents on Government Programs

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held video-conference with Kandahar elders, influential, youth and civil society activists here the other day and heard their problems and demands, the presidential statement said yesterday.
The Kandahar residents briefed the president on the problems and demands, particularly in areas of education, public health, investments, agriculture, capacity buildings, water management and urban development, the statement added.
Representing the Ulema, provincial head of Ulema Council, Mawlawi Obaidullah Faizani asked president’s attention towards Kandahar religious figures, construction of madrassas and security in the province, according to the statement.
Addressing the Kandahar residents, President Ghani said extension of electricity pylons have been completed by 70 percent and the city would have electricity in coming summer.  He also said 400MW solar energy project has been completed and 70 out of 90 school buildings have also been constructed in the province and the remaining would be completed soon, the statement quoted the president as saying.
Hinting to urban development as the main priority of the government, the president said Kandahar waters to be evaluated and a delegation to be sent to the province to assess prevention of possible floods in the province.
The president also said that grand mosques to be built in each districts of the province, adding government would focus on salaries of the religious figures and heirs of the martyrs’ families, the statement added.
According to the statement. The president instructed the ministry of higher education to consider scholarships for the Kandahar youth as well as construct a dormitory for female students in the city.
The president vowed to address traders’ problems and thanked Kandahar residents for taking part in the election and defending the republic systems in the country, the statement added.
