Dr. Abdullah Stresses Afghanistan Economic Self-Sufficiency in Near Future

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah chaired the Council of Minister meeting here at the Sapidar Palace on Monday, BNA reported. At the outset, Dr. Abdullah congratulated the advent of Milad-ul-Nabi to Afghan and world Muslim communities. He also praised afghan forces’ braveries and sacrifices in war on terror, adding people would not forget their devotions for the country. The meeting continued with ministries and independent directorates’ reports of activities. Deputy minister of interior informed the meeting of their operations, saying the militants did not have the capability to fight Afghan forces and ANDSF were moving ahead to recapture the lost areas. Meanwhile, deputy minister of commerce and industries reported about trade balance, saying exports were increased by 5.5 percent in second quarters of the ongoing fiscal year 1398 comparting to second quarter of the last fiscal year, adding the imports were also decreased by eight percent comparing to last year.
Hinting to the report, Dr. Abdullah said Afghanistan’s goods and trade items could compete with those of the world, adding much capacities needed to help the country reach economic self-sufficiency in near future. Minister of rural rehabilitation and development briefed the session on their programs for rural economy and called the main goal of the program to develop economic capacities of rural women. Praising the ministry’s programs, the Chief Executive said development of the country was linked with active participation of women, asking the government organs to further involve women in their development programs. Meanwhile, the minister of refugees and repatriates said they have boosted their efforts to attract more national and international support for refugees and repatriates during the winter season. The ministry of water and energy reported about construction of electricity dam in Kunar with 2.1 MGW capacity, adding the work affairs have been suspended due to insecurity. Concluding the session, Dr. Abdullah instructed ministry of refugees and repatriates and security organs to step up efforts for providing assistance to those families in need as well as security to the electricity dam in Kunar.
