Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has fired Ambassador to Russia Dr. Latif Bahand on the basis of verbal orders from President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Dr. Bahand was appointed as ambassador to Russia on October 23, 2018.
His ambassadorial appointment was then widely commended as a good decision. A letter sent by MoFA to Moscow and signed by deputy economic cooperation minister Mirwais Nab, says Dr. Bahand was relieved on Sunday August 9. Bahand was fired in accordance with President Ghani’s verbal decree.
The letter tasked a three-member delegation of the Afghan embassy to complete Bahand’s clearance. Meanwhile, the ministry has appointed Mukhtar Humayoon as acting envoy in Moscow.
In a letter to MoFA, the president’s office had appreciated Dr. Bahand’s role and activities. Bahand has also served as deputy head of the Central Asia Desk in MoFA.
The seasoned diplomat is also a creative writer and has authored many books that are full of useful insights and erudition.
Bahand, commenting on his removal, called diplomatic reshuffles a usual exercise and welcomed any decision from the president and MoFA in this regard.
