Acting FM Meets with UK Ambassador to Kabul

Kabul (BNA) Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with Alison Blake, Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Kabul yesterday.
According to BNA report, at the outset, the Foreign Minister thanked Amb. Blake for the comprehensive speech at the inaugural meeting of the Afghan Peace Talks delivered by Lord Tariq Ahmad, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and United Nations. Mr. Atmar also appreciated the British Government’s cooperation with the Government and people of Afghanistan over the past 19 years.
Speaking about the peace process, Mr. Atmar said that establishment of a humanitarian ceasefire, the mechanism for monitoring the reduction of violence, maintaining the achievements of the past 19 years and expanding regional cooperation are important for the success of the peace process.
Ambassador Blake congratulated the people and the government of Afghanistan on the commencement of the peace talks and hoped that the talks would reach a favorable outcome. She also stressed her government's continued support for the Afghan peace process, strengthening regional and international consensus, and preserving the democratic achievements of the past 19 years.
In closing, the two sides stressed the need to further expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and the United Kingdom, Amb. Alison assured Mr. Atmar of her country's continued commitment and cooperation to Afghanistan in the future.
