Brussels,( BNA)– Today, Gen Sher Mohammed Karimi, Chief of the General Staff of the Afghan Armed Forces, met with the NATO Military Committee in ISAF format to discuss Afghanistan. Discussions focussed particularly on the development of the Afghan National Army and the training and education capabilities of the Afghan Training Command and Educational Institutions.

LtGen Walter Gaskin, Acting Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, recalled the outcome of the Bonn Conference (5 Dec.) and the meeting of the NATO Foreign Ministers (7 Dec) as demonstration of the International Community’s commitment to Afghanistan. In his opening remarks, he praised the progress made so far by the Afghan National Army and reaffirmed the need to continue to support Afghanistan throughout the transition process and beyond. In the framework of the Enduring Partnership, a key milestone will be the package of concrete assistance measures to be agreed at NATO’s next Summit in Chicago in May 2012.

In a spirit of reciprocal trust and appreciation, Gen Karimi expressed his gratitude towards NATO efforts in Afghanistan. He emphasized the improvements achieved by the Afghan military, particularly in the fields of education, gender and training. Thanking NATO’s Allies and Partners, he assured the Military Committee that the valuable support given by their nations is most appreciated and that their sacrifice will not be wasted. Indeed, this is a solid base on which to build stability for the Afghan population and for the wider region.

Afghanistan recalls ambassador from Qatar

KABUL(BNA): Afghanistan has recalled its ambassador to Qatar for 'consultations


"The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has had brotherly relations with the government of Qatar, which it thanks for its cooperation on the reconstruction of Afghanistan," the ministry's official statement said which has been sent to Bakhtar News Agency.

"But regarding recent developments in Afghanistan and in the region, including Afghanistan's relations with Qatar, the Afghan government has decided to recall its ambassador Khaled Ahmad Zekerya from Doha for the purpose of some consultations."

Khan Sheen District Governor Martyred

Kabul (BNA) District Governor of Khan Sheen was martyred in a mine explosion this afternoon in Helmand province.
It is said, in this event, a national security directorate person and a policeman was martyred and three other policemen got injures.
Dawod Ahmadi Spokesman of Helmand Governor told this news agency, Masoud Khan District Governor of Khan Sheen while returning from elimination process of poppy farms and evaluation of people’s problems, his car faced with a roadside mine and martyred.
Doctors in the central hospital of Helmand province called the health condition of policeman critical.

50 Civilians Joined Local Police

Kandahar (BNA) 50 civilians were joined to local police in Kandahar province. 
Neyaz Mohammad Sarhadi governor of Zheri district said to BNA, these men joined to local police rank for ensuring better security and order in Zheri district. 
These local policemen have received primary techniques, using of arms and dealing with people by experts of security commandment of that province. 
He called joining of these policemen useful in insurance of peace in that province.

Recreational Park To Construct In Maidan-Shaher

Maidan Shaher (BNA) The construction work of a recreational park was commenced in the center of Maidan-Wardak province today. 
The mentioned park under the name of Park Solha (Peace Park) will be constructed from development budget of municipality of that province. 
Engineer Mahmood care-taker of Maidan-Wardak municipality said to this news agency, this park will be constructed on an area of 12 jiribs of land at the cost of Afs 5 million within 4 months. 
The park will have playground for children, green areas, proper palace for families and elders and other facilities.

Maimana (BNA) A 7 member group of armed insurgents led by commander Qader were joined to peace process in Faryab province yesterday. 
Ahmad Jaweed Bedar spokesman of Faryab governor said to BNA, the mentioned group previously had activity against government in Ghool Bayan village, Garzewan district of Faryab province, was joined to peace process with their hand arms. 
These insurgents handed over their heavy and light arms to security forces, said the source.

Maidan-Shaher (BNA) Armed men of Islamic Party killed four Taliban including 2 commanders of them in Narkh district of Maidan Wardak province yesterday. 
Shahidullah Shahid spokesperson for Maidan-Wardak governor said to this news agency, a clash took place between armed men of Islamic Party and Taliban in Dadel area, Nerkh district in which four Taliban were killed. 
Mohammad Hanif Hanifi governor of Nerkh district said to BNA, among the killed Taliban, two local commanders of Taliban, Mullah Ibrahim and Mullah Naiem are included.

Mine Blast Kills Six Persons In Helmand

Lashkarga (BNA) Six persons were killed in mine blast in Helmand province yesterday.
The Helmand press office said to BNA, the incident took place while a car faced with the road side mine in Haidar Abad area, Greshek district of that province.
The report added, in this incident six persons including women and children were martyred and two other women were wounded.
The source said, the injured of the incident transferred to the hospital by the security personnel and doctor called health condition of the injured women satisfactory.
According to and other report, as a result of an explosion in Sangean district of Helmand province two police and three civilian were injured.
The explosive materials were planted in a Motorcycle exploded by remote in the bazaar of Sangean district in which two policemen and three civilian were wounded.
He said the culprit of the case was arrested by police and is under custody.

Commander Arab Killed In Kandahar

Kandahar (BNA) A Taliban commander named Arab with his three followers was killed in Kandahar province yesterday night.  
This commander was killed in combined operation of Afghan and NATO forces in Zheri district of that province. 
According to BNA, the commander with his three followers was killed in combined operation of Afghan and NATO forces in Pashmool area, Zheri district. 
According to another report, four persons were detained on charges of cooperation with Taliban by police from Kotal Dara area of Paktia province.

School Buildings Inaugurated

Jalalabad-Mehtarlam-Pul-i-Alam (BNA) The foundation stone of a school was laid in Nangarhar, while three newly constructed buildings for schools were inaugurated in Logar and work on a green belt launched in Laghman, officials said on Monday. 
Nangarhar Education Director Allah Dad Ismailzai said this news agency; the foundation stone of a building for the Charbagh Safa High School was laid in Surkhrod district. 
The Japanese funded project will be completed in a year at a cost of $37,000. 
Of 785 schools in Nangarhar, 350 have proper buildings, according to Mohammad Asif Shinwari, an official of the education department. 
In central Logar province, three newly-constructed buildings for schools were inaugurated. 
Education director Abdul Matin Jafar said the buildings in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, cost $330,000, provided by the International Security Assistance Force ISAF. 
Elsewhere, construction work on a three-kilometer green belt was launched in the Sultan Ghazni Mena area of Mehtarlam, Laghman’s capital.
