Kabul (BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Zalmi Rassoul, attended the annual coordination meeting of the Organization or Islamic Cooperation on the sidelines of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York other day.
Dr. Rassoul underlined the steady and on-time progress of the Transition process, the success of the Tokyo Conference and the Afghan High Peace Council’s reinvigorated efforts in the context of the peace process. Dr. Rassoul called on OIC member states to support the Afghan people’s just quest for a lasting peace.
“Afghanistan’s reconciliation efforts have gained momentum” Dr. Rassoul said. “Having concluded its visit to Saudi Arabia, a high- level delegation of the Council, headed by Chairman Salahuddin Rabbani, will soon visit Pakistan for result-oriented discussions on ways to move the peace process forward.”
“We are particularly grateful for the OIC’s support for the success of our reconciliation efforts and call on member states to do whatever they can to help us realize the aspiration and right of the Afghan people for a lasting and just peace.”
Dr. Rassoul also condemned the recent acts of insult to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and said, “Freedom of speech should, by no means, be interpreted as a green light for defamation of Prophets, religions and beliefs.”
“By the same token, we should not allow such acts to undermine our shared goal of mutual respect and peaceful co-existence among all religions and civilizations.”

Kabul (BNA)   The sources of the interior affairs ministry said that 16 insurgents were killed in cleaning operation of Afghan and coalition forces.  Interior ministry press office said to BNA, the security forces in 24 hours  conducted 10 cleaning operation in the outskirts of insecurity regions of Sar-i-Pul, Kandahar, Urozgan, Maidan-Wardak, Logar, Herat , Farah, Ghor and Helmand provinces, in which 16 armed Taliban insurgents were killed, 10 wounded and 22 others of them were detained.  It is said that in these operations, 3305 kg of narcotic, 2 rocket launcher, 2 PK machine guns, 8 different types of arms, 4 mines, 5560 kg of chemical fertilizers other military equipments and a vehicle of enemies were seized by these forces.

Kabul (BNA) The four-day workshop on capacity of the employees of the ministry of information and culture was concluded yesterday.
In the workshop attended by 60 employees of the ministry of information and culture and Bakhter News Agency, the issue of public administration in development of the country, introduction of the national development strategy of Afghanistan, planning and reporting was debated, Mohammad Isa Khaterzai the head of capacity building and development of the human resources department said.

Kabul (BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Zalmai Rassoul and his Peruvian counterpart Mr. Rafael Roncagliolo signed and exchanged the documents establishment direct diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Peru at a special ceremony at the Peruvian permanent mission to the United Nation on the sidelines of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York on September 27.
Speaking before the signing ceremony, Dr. Rasoul said the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries did not only signify the beginning of a new phase of close and friendly relations between the two governments but signaled the strengthening of ties between the two nations.
  He also underlined the common experience of both countries in democratic development, fighting against narcotics, terrorism and the development of natural resources and other economic sectors.
Mr. Rancagliolo also expressed his satisfaction at the establishment of the direct diplomatic relationship between the two countries. “I would like to express my strong commitment that through this act, the Peru Afghanistan relations which symbolizes the beginning of mutual cooperation and reciprocity, we may continue to develop common goals in the progress of democracy, social justice and peace for our nations.

Afghan FM meets Austrian Vice-Chancellor

Kabul (BNA) The minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Zalmai Rassoul met the Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for European Union and International Affairs of Austria Mr. Michael Spindelegger at the permanent mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations on the sidelines of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York the other day.
Both sides discussed the long-standing cooperation and friendship between Afghanistan and Austria, particularly in the context of Austria’s contribution to ISAF and Afghan police training efforts.
Both sides agreed to exchange bilateral visits to Kabul and Vienna in the near future to discuss the expansion of cooperation and relations between the two countries, especially in the economic development, investment and educational sectors.
Austria has been a member of the ISAF mission since 2004 and has also so far contributed US$27 million to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development efforts.

Kabul (BNA) The minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Zalmai Rassoul met his Uzbek counterpart Mr. Abdul Aziz Khafizovich Kamilov on the sidelines of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York the other day.
Both sides underlined the historic roots of the friendship and relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, and expressed their desire to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction at the recent nomination of new ambassadors by both countries to each other’s capitals, and agreed to exchange visits at their levels in the near future.
Both sides also discussed the ongoing Transition process in Afghanistan and regional developments relating to security, economic development, border management and regional cooperation.

Kabul (BNSA)  A high ranking authority of Russian Federation has alleged that around 20,000 tons of narcotics have been stocked in the north of Afghanistan that is planned to gradually exported to Russian Federation and Europe.
Victor Ivanov Chairman of the Administration for Supervision of Russian Narcotics has alleged this at the meeting with in charges of narcotics of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Russia and Pakistan.  He emphasized that this huge stock needs a joint operation to be eradicated.
The meeting was held recently in Dushanbeh at the center of Tajikistan.  Ivanov added at the meeting that around 2,000 tons of narcotics have been stocked in the mountainous parts of north of Afghanistan and if no poppy is cultivated in Afghanistan for another ten years this amount can meet the needs of the addicts in the western countries.  He added that the countries present at the meeting should launch a joint operation.  Though Ivanov has alleged stocking of this amount in north of Afghanistan, but Zarar Ahmad Muqbel Minister of counter-narcotics of Afghanistan says that he has no information in this respect and while he in a way rejects the allegations of Ivanov, reiterates that around 335 reduction has been noticed in the current year and almost 93% of the produced narcotics is grown in regions where insecurity prevails and armed clashes often occur in those areas.  At the Tajikistan meeting a new plan agreed that facilitates positive ways towards struggle against narcotics smuggling and this plan envisages security cooperation and measures for prevention of narcotics smuggling.

Afghans have chosen way of peace

The development of previous years put Afghanistan at focus point of world attention and the countries across the world demanded for long term political and economic ties with Afghanistan, which is an emphasize on pivotal role of this country in world level.

BNA political analyst writes:  Recently, Hamid Karzai the president of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Polish president visited at the sideline of 67th session of UN General Assembly. The two sides, in addition to other relevant important issues, talked on preparing a draft of strategic cooperation between the two countries, which will be prepared and finalized after necessary consultations.

It is not only Poland that wants for concluding a long term strategic cooperation agreement with Afghanistan, also  Pakistan our neighboring country, tends  to extend its relation with Afghanistan within the framework of such  an agreement.

Mr. Karzai in a meeting with Mr. Asif Ali Zardari the Pakistan president in New York, while the British prime minister was also present, expressed his agreement on finalizing the draft of strategic cooperation agreement between the two countries until the end of 2013. Earlier to this Afghanistan has signed long term strategic co operation agreements with powerful countries of the region and the world, like India, US, Great Britain, Germany, France etc and recently such an agreement also was signed with China. Political activist believe, the Afghanistan tendency toward ensuring peace at national, regional and international levels, key role of the country in international issues, emphasizing on coexistence and regional cooperation and finally prevention from extremism were the key policies of Afghanistan which made the countries of the world including military and economic powers to extend their relations with Afghanistan, by signing strategic cooperation agreements. Because the leadership of Afghanistan always considers mutual understanding and reconciliation the only way of settling the problems and insists instead of seeking supremacy and exploiting the other countries should think about the interests of people all over the world. This realistic and wisely designed policy which meets the interests of all mankind faced the positive reaction of the world and led to the signing of strategic agreements with various countries.

Afghanistan tries its best, using the agreements and commitments to   prevail peace and trust in the region and the world and to prevent the reoccurrence of incidents which have caused huge casualties and destructions. Afghanistan wants instead illegal competitions and rivalries in the region build and atmosphere of trust and co operations in the region and ensures economic cooperation among the countries of the region.

Signing strategic cooperation agreements with a number of countries and talking with a number of other countries in that regard, are instances of the efforts which lead the south Asian countries to be a center of peace, security and prosperity and will establish a new chapter of political developments which will be positive and extensive.

Afghans believe to the world order and access to that order is impossible without peace and stability. This way of thinking and belief has maid the Afghan authorities to use every opportunity for restoring peace and stability in the country and in the region. If they negotiate for concluding strategic co operation agreements outside the country, they prefer to settle the disputes inside the country via negotiations and mutual understanding. In spite of many barriers and obstacles on the way of peace, they insist on ensuring peace via peaceful means.  The experiences of the past indicate that insecurity and instability in Afghanistan, is not only horrible and painful for Afghan oppressed people but threatens the region and the world as a whole. So, it is the responsibility of the region and international community who talk about ending hostilities and ensuring peace in Afghanistan work honestly like Afghan in that regard in order to create an atmosphere, suitable for progress and welfare of the people around the world.

Kabul (BNA) Tens of youth members of civil society of Afghanistan met yesterday with Mohammad Karim Khalili second vice-president and asked for government support to the youth.
At the meeting in which Temur Shah Ishaqzai deputy minister for youth of information and couture ministry was also present, the youth members called the presence of the youth in different social, cultural, political and economic spheres as positive and asked for government support towards this big segment of the society.
According to them, the civil society of Afghanistan is a civil foundation that has started its official activities recently and it held its second congress for adoption of its charter and its organizational structure in the past week.
The aim for formation of this foundation has been assistance to the democratic values, strengthening of freedom of speech and ensuring the women rights.
Khalili touching on the role of youth and their position in the transformation of the country said that today around 60% of the population of the country are youth and in case this great force actively enter into the different social spheres, a great change would come about in the country.
He also touched on the problems and challenges of the country and reiterated that these challenges will be eliminated when the youth are made workable in this direction.
He called the youth the main factor for transformation in the society and called their role in ensuring national unity and cohesion among the people of the country.
He asked the youth to show resistance against the challenges and never allow desperation and hopelessness in their future destiny.
He assured them the government will launch programs for the growth of the youth and stressed that the existing departments should made use of the youth in their structures for responding to the present needs of the country.

President Karzai returns home

Kabul (BNA) president Hamid Karzai who went to the US last Tuesday September 23rd for participation at the 67th General Assembly of the UN in New York returned home yesterday evening.
In his address to the UN General Assembly President Karzai touched on the recent world issues and said that the world has been shocked by the actions of a number of immorally weak elements, for they resorted to insults against the belief of the almost one and half billion Muslim.
He condemned this act and added that either this type of insults is made through production of a film or caricatures can never be justified as freedom of speech.
In regard with the hide outs of the terrorism centers on the other side of the Afghan borders said that there is no terrorism in our villages and cities and they were not here in the past , as well, while the terrorism roots and hide outs are situated beyond the borders of Afghanistan.
In respect to Afghanistan’s relations with Pakistan he stressed that we are committed in the atmosphere of fraternal relations with Pakistan, and we are also aware of the issues that are making our ties tense as well.
Because for some time the Pakistan rockets attacks on Afghan border villages will harm the present Afghan and Pakistan efforts for security.
In his visit President Karzai besides participating at the 67th UN General Assembly had separate meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban-ki-moon, President of Pakistan, British Prime Minister, US Secretary of State and some other world leaders.
At these meetings issues pertaining to the Afghan peace process, transition of security, forthcoming elections and the struggle against terrorism and extremism were taken up.
