World Telecom Day Marked In Kabul

Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology said on Wednesday the sector had attracted an investment of $1.7 billion, providing work opportunities for more than 110,000 people. 
Currently covering 86 percent areas of the country, the sector is trying to expand services to remote areas, the deputy minister of telecommunications and information technology said. 
On World Telecommunications Day, Eng. Baryalai Hassam told a gathering in Kabul that the revenue of the ministry the only one that spent 67 percent of its development budget stood at $190 million in 2011. 
The purpose of the meeting was to raise public awareness about the importance of using the Internet and other telecom facilities in improving the economy, he said. 
Deputy Information and Culture Minister Din Mohammad Mubarez linked media efficiency to the rapid improvement of the telecommunication sector in the country.
