Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan on Saturday defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their final four-day match to win the ICC Intercontinental Cup at Abu Dhabi. The event that began two years ago among eight countries ended with Afghanistan emerging the champions. The UAE won the toss and elected to bowl first in the game match. Afghanistan played well and scored 510 runs in their first innings by losing nine wickets. Four Afghan batsmen — Ihsanullah Janat, Rahmatshah Zurmati and Captain AsgharStanikzia — struck centuries. In response, the Emiratis were bundled out for just 197 runs in their first innings. Rashid Khan and Zahir Khan shared three wickets each, pushing the UAE into follow-on. However, the UAE struggled hard and stretched the match to the fourth day, but Afghanistan bowlers restricted them to 331 in their second innings and set Afghanistan 19 runs target. Afghanistan’s openers chased the target in the 6th over, winning the cup. Rashid Khan was declared the man of the match.
