Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has praised ace spinner Rashid Khan as an asset to the cricketing world, saying they are not giving him away.
Rashid Khan, who comes from eastern Nangarhar province, once again gave a wonderful all-round performance to guide Sunrisers Hydarabad into the Indian Primer League (IPL) final on Friday night. He smashed 24 runs off 100 balls, grabbed three wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs and took two high-pressure catches in the final over to take his team into Sunday’s final. Cricket fans on social media showered praise on the Afghan prodigy. Some Indians even wanted an Indian citizenship for the top-ranked Twenty20 bowler. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj came up with a witty response to fans: “@rashidkhan_19-I have seen all the tweets. Citizenship matters are dealt by Ministry of Home Affairs.
President Ghani tweeted: “Afghans take absolute pride in our hero, Rashid Khan. I am also thankful to our Indian friends for giving our players a platform to show their skills. “Rashid remains an asset to the cricketing world. No, we are not giving him away,” the president wrote. Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also lauded Khan’s exceptional talent. He tweeted: “We all take so much pride in him and wish him all the best for the final and many more games to come.”
