Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan won the Trinidad Quadrangular T20 Series 2012 by net run rate last night, beating Bangladesh, Trinidad and Tobago (T and T), and Barbados to take the championship.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh and T and T all won two matches each to get an equal six points, so the deciding factor for the overall winner came down to the run rate.
Afghanistan topped the points table with the best rate, Bangladesh came second, T and T placed third, while Barbados lost all their matches to sit in the last place.
Bangladesh had been leading the points table, but the loss to T and T on Saturday night brought their score down.
Afghanistan had earlier taken an easy five-wicket win over Barbados on Saturday, but waited until Bangladesh and T&T had finished playing to celebrate their championship win.
The matches were played in T&T’s Wood brook field, Queen’s Park Oval.
The World T20 championship starts in Sri Lanka on September 18.
