Cabinet’s National Literacy Committee Holds Session

Kabul (BNA) Chaired by second vice president Sarwar Danesh, the cabinet’s national literacy committee held session on Saturday, BNA reported.
At the outset, acting minister of education Mirwais Balkhi reported about his ministry’s activities in term of literacy based on which the cooperation agreements among the deputy ministry of education for literacy and government and private organizations are getting improved, according to the statement.
According to him, this year, due to UNESCO international organization’s considerations, Bamyan has gotten the membership of UNESCO global network of learning cities.
Evaluating the education ministry’s steps on literacy as positive, second VP stressed those organizations that have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with deputy ministry of education for literacy, should seriously pay heed to their next year’s budget on literacy section, the statement added.
Literacy conditional draft was also presented in the meeting by deputy ministry of education for literacy based on which, forced learning has been predicted for activities such as driving licenses, work permit for shopkeepers and cleaners being recruited in 7th and 8th grades of civil services.
The meeting’s participants stressed on flexible and gradual forcing of literacy.
For implementation and planning of literacy for the mentioned grades of civil services, the meeting decided the issue would be reviewed in a meeting with administrative reforms and civil services commission.
According to the agenda, deputy minister of education for literacy said the literacy committee meeting have not been held in 20 provinces and the committee tasked the local organs administration to investigate the issue through a formal decree.
