Education Sector must meet Requirements of 21st Century: President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani participated and delivered his remarks at the closing ceremony of the First National Education Symposium, on Wednesday evening at the presidential palace, a statement said on Friday.
President Ghani, joined by the First Lady and senior state officials, said, ‘today is a significant day in contemporary history of Afghanistan and will be remembered as a day for change’, adding that such gatherings and open discussions provide a conducive platform to establish reforms, and contribute to identifying the problems, setting goals and objectives and delineating an enriched educational roadmap, the statement from presidential press office said.
The president iterated the education sector should transform into a body that can meet the requirements of the 21st century. He termed schools as instruments for nation-building that shape the characters of students and present them to society as responsible citizens, the statement added.
Acting Minister of Education Dr. Mirwais Balkhi briefed on the 3-day symposium, where issues pertaining to education reforms including its scale and scope as well as methodologies and approaches, according to statement.
Dr. Balkhi underscored the need for revision of education-related laws and legislations and highlighted the importance of transforming educational system in terms of quality and quantity, providing fair and quality services in the sector, maximizing the use of technology and adopting a capability-based curriculum at schools.
