January 26, 2012 - After arriving to the famous city of Turkmenbashy in Turkmenistan, President Karzai met Wednesday morning President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to discuss a number of important economic projects including the TAPI, the Afghan-Turkmenistan railway and electricity export to Afghanistan.


The two Presidents discussed measures required to finalize for the full implementation of the gas pipeline that goes through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India known as the TAPI.


President Karzai termed fruitful and productive his conversation and meeting with President Berdimuhamedov and thanked him for everything Turkmenistan has done to Afghanistan and stressed that implementing TAPI project was vital for the countries involved.


President Berdimuhamedov too recognized the regional importance of the gas pipeline project that passes through Afghanistan to the South Asian countries and vowed to put in place all necessary measures expected of them for an early implementation of the critical project.


Accompanying the President on the trip was Afghan Mining Minister, who said a design and full study of a separate project involving the establishment of an 84 km of railway extending across the Atamyrat-Ymamnazar in Turkmenistan to Akina-Andhoi in Afghanistan had been finalized with actual work expected to begin soon.


Of the issues central to discussion between the two countries was the transmission of 500 mgw of electricity to Afghanistan set to be completed in two years time.

Six Armed Militants Detained in Kunduz

Kunduz (BNA) the security police of Kunduz province has detained a suicide attacker with five armed militants yesterday.  Syeed Sarwar Hosaini   in charge of Kunduz security commandment said to BNA, the personnel of this security commandment during an operation detained a suicide attacker with five armed insurgents in the Ghondi Keli, Ai Khanom area of Chardara district.  A suicide vest, a computer, a pistol, 100 bullets of different arms and quantity of explosive device were seized from them, said the source.  These militants are under custody and the case is under investigation by police.

Kabul (BNA) a ring-leader of Taliban insurgents was detained in 3 separate operations by ISAF yesterday.  According to ISAF press release, ISAF and Afghan forces conducted operation in the Gereshk district of Helmand province, they detained a ring-leader of Insurgents with one other in that province and they seized 7 kg of opium.  Meanwhile ISAF reported from other operation in the Zheri district of Kandahar province, during in this operation number of suspects have been detained on charges of destructive activities.  Other separate operation carried out by these forces in suburb of Syeedabad district of Maidan-Wardak province they detained a militants.  The identities of the arrested insurgents have not clear.

Kabul (BNA) at least 35 civilians were killed and wounded in a suicide attack in Helmand province yesterday.  This event occurred near PRT building of foreign forces in a crowded bazaar in Lashkargah city yesterday morning.  According to reports, in this event the suicide attacker blew up his car full of exploded material in this bazaar.  Daud Ahmadi spokesman for Helmand Governor said to BNA, armed Taliban wanted to target number of NATO forces who were passing in two vehicles from the area, but they had no casualties in this event.  According to him in this incident, four civilians including of a child was killed and at least 31 others were wounded.  Daud Ahmadi said that among the injured four women are included.  It is said that 15 vehicles and some shops were damaged in this event.  Meanwhile, Dr. of Central Hospital of Lashkarga city reported health condition of 8 injured critical.

Kabul (BNA) Full General Abdul Rahim Wardak national defense minister met with Australia defense Minister yesterday.  According to national defense ministry press office, the two sides talked on development of national army, transferring of 2nd round of security responsibilities.  Afghan defense minister talked regarding successful development of national army and readiness of national army for taking of security responsibilities and appreciated activities of Australia forces in betterment of their security activities in Urozgan province.  Reciprocally, the Australia defense minister assured present of Australia forces after year of 2014 in Afghanistan and said we will cooperate Afghan security forces for education and all security equipments.

Kabul (BNA) 20 armed insurgents were jointed to peace consolidation process in Baghlan province yesterday.  Colonel Asadullah Shirzad police chief of Baghlan said to BNA, 20 members group led by commander Momen belonged to Islamic party had terrorist activities against government in the outskirts of Baysqal village, Baghlan Markazi (Central Baghlan) district.  The armed insurgents with 17 different types of their hand arms were jointed to peace process in that province.

Bomb Bloody event Prevented in Baghlan

Kabul (BNA) the Afghan forces said that they prevented from a bomb bloody event in Baghlan province yesterday.  According to reports, these forces succeeded to discover a bomb which was placed by armed Taliban along the road in the outskirts of Baghlan province.  Mohammad Kameen police chief of Baghlan said to BNA, armed Taliban with planting of this bomb wanted to target caravan of NATO forces but police defused the bomb before reaching of this caravan.  According to him, Taliban placed the bomb in a gallon under a bridge.

Kabul (BNA) Dr. Zulmay Rasoul, Afghan minister of foreign affairs on Wednesday met with Yan Kobesh, ZUN’s new special representative to Afghanistan.  In the meeting, Afghan minister of foreign affairs while praising the role of the UN in reconstruction and maintaining security in Afghanistan hoped UN would continue its assistance to Afghanistan because a country which has spent 30 years war and problems and started reconstruction process needs further cooperation of the international community and United Nations.  He added, “The role which is played by the UN is more important in particular your appointment as the UN’s special envoy to Afghanistan is very important in transition and peace processes in Afghanistan.”  In return, the new special representative of the UN to Afghanistan spoke and said, “I’ve come here as a colleague and cooperator of Afghanistan and I’m intending to share my close consultations with Afghan ministry of foreign affairs.  Therefore, want to expand UNAMA operating plan based on new work rules in few months.  He reiterated the UN’s further assistance to Afghanistan and its people.

Dr. Raheen condemns killing of VOA reporter

Kabul (BNA) Minister of Information and Culture Dr. Sayed Makhdom Raheen strongly condemned the killing of Mukaram Khan Hatif reporter of Voice of America (VoA).  Mukaram Khan Hatif who was also reporting for private TV of Dunya was killed in Mohmand region, a border region by armed individuals during evening prayers at the local mosque and the Pakistani Taliban took the responsibility for his killing.  Dr. Raheen said in his message that Mukaram Khan has been sacrificed for preparing reports on realities.  Dr. Raheen called the perpetrators of this incident as enemies of realities.

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai expressed his sympathy over six NATO troop’s death in a helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan.  According to reports, six NATO troops had been killed when their chopper had crashed in southern Afghanistan.  President of the country express his condolence to the households of the killed copter crews.
