Defense minister attends ISAF meeting

Kabul (BNA) Defense minister General Bismillah Khan Mohammadi attended the joint meeting of ISAF command yesterday, press office of defense ministry said.
In the meeting according to the source, training and equipping of national army, security transition and the green-on-blue attacks came under discussion.
In the meeting, the defense minister said the national army is capable to assume the security responsibility completely.
Counting the reasons for green-on-blue attacks, the defense said the enemies protégé cultural and religious motivations can be the reason behind insiders attack, adding the government in collaboration with the international community would do its best to check such attack.

4 mine planters killed in Kunar

Kabul (BNA) four mine planters killed in explosion of mine in Kunar province.  Interior ministry press office said to BNA, four min planters wanted to place a mine in the vicinities of Manogi district of Kunar province; the mine exploded and killed them.  According to another report, seven mines were placed by terrorists for barbaric actions in the different regions of Urozgan, Herat and Nangarhar provinces were discovered and defused by the national police forces. T.

Kabul (BNA) the water and energy ministers of Turkmenistan arrived Kabul today.  BNA reporter reported from Kabul International Airport, this trip took place in invitation of Afghanistan water and energy ministry, this delegation during their one day stay in Kabul; they talked on increasing important power of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and extension of new power line from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and investment on water dams in Afghanistan.

World Peace Day observed in Kabul

Kabul (BNA)  A function held here to mark the World Peace Day.  Attended by government functionaries, UNIMA officials, parliamentarians and members of High Peace Council, the deputies of the special envoy of the United Nations in their speeches announced their support to peace talks with the armed oppositions.  Pointing out the nearing the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan, both the officials said that the international community would continue to support Afghanistan to achieve self-reliance in the fields of security, economy, social, military training and social infrastructures.
In his address in the meeting, the minister for information and culture Dr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen described peace as the prime need of Afghans, adding the Afghans are peace loving people.
He also noted that the government-initiated national reconciliation can help to achieve peace in the country.

Tourism industry facing degradation: Dr. Raheen

Kabul (BNA) The minister of information and culture Dr. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen has said that the tourism industry has been faced with degradation in the country.  Addressing the conference to mark the World Tourism Day, here the other day, Dr. Raheen pointed out the tourism industry has been facing problems nowadays even though the country with having old civilizations and historical monuments, the outcome is few.  He also stated that around 1200 historic monuments are facing extinction presently, cautioning if the government and international community do not pay necessary attention, Afghanistan would lose part of its cultural heritages which is part of the world’s civilization.  Afghanistan, he noted is the land of tourism, adding famous tourists from China, India and Greece had written about their tours to Afghanistan.  Dr. Raheen also9 noted that Afghanistan has the capacity to earn between 4 billion to 7 billion US dollars through tourism if the tourism industry is developed.  In the conference, the message of President Hamid Karzai was also readout by Prof. Nabi Farahi the deputy to the ministry for information and culture.  In his message the president besides congratulating the day also stressed for boosting tourism as part of economic activity in the country.  Meantime, the ministry for information and culture has proposed the formation of Tourism High Council to the cabinet Dignitaries among others spoke at the conference include UNESCO’s representative Sara Noshadi, Dr. Zakir Hussain Irshadi, Bamyan governor Habiba Sarabi, Agha Khan Foundation representative Ali Mouji, Khalil Minawi and head of national radio and television Zarin Anzor.  Later on Prof. Farahi and Mubaraiz Rashidi also inaugurated the handicraft exhibition to mark the World Tourism Day.

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai met in his residence with the President of Poland the other day.  At the meeting they discussed the assistance of Poland after 2014 and the proposal for strategic cooperation between Afghanistan and Poland.
The President of Poland presented the proposed strategic cooperation document to President Karzai so that the government of Afghanistan will study its conditions and share its views with the Polish Government.
Hamid Karzai called Poland Afghanistan’s historic friend and thanked for its assistance in training of the Afghan security forces in recent years.  President Karzai discussing the draft of the strategic cooperation document between Afghanistan and Poland said that this document will be studied by the Afghan foreign ministry and the National Security Council and then our conditions will be shared with the Polish side.

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai participated the other day at the tri-partite meeting with President of Pakistan and British Premier David Cameron.
At the meeting the leaders of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Britain discussed peace, stability and current situation, strategic cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and struggle against extremism.  President Karzai agreed with the President of Pakistan on finalization of the draft of the strategic cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan till the end of 2013 in an effort to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.  At this meeting David Cameroon committed himself that his country will support the current efforts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Hamid Karzai and President Asif Ali Zardari for further strengthening of relations between the two nations praised the outstanding role of Britain in improving ties between the two nations.  Zardari reiterated on the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan and said that before the advent of Eidul-Adha, it is expected that the delegation of the Afghan high peace council visit Pakistan and this will be a big steps towards progress of peace efforts.
President Karzai appreciated the continued assistance and cooperation of Britain and Pakistan in the past years.
At the end it was agreed that the ministers of foreign affairs of Afghanistan and Pakistan will continue their discussions in order to finalize the strategic cooperation document between the two nations and to attain progress and assessment of this process will met in the near future.

Kabul (BNA)  President Hamid Karzai in his address to the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations has pointed out the profane film produced by extremists had hurt the feeling of more than 1.5 billion Muslims in the world and strongly condemned it.  The president in his speech noted that insulting films or cartoons cannot be justified as freedom of press, saying such behavior can threat the co-existence among the cultures and civilizations, calling on western politicians and media outlets to fight against such evils. 
Counting Afghanistan’s achievements over the past years, the president said that Afghanistan has achieved a lot.
However, the prime expectation of Afghans which peaceful life has not been achieved completely, saying Afghans is still become the victims of war on terror and suffer.
President Karzai pointed out the sanctuaries of terrorists are outside Afghanistan and not in Afghan villages, saying the war on terror must be taken on the  centers of terrorist, otherwise, it would be useless.
In efforts to facilitate direct talks with the armed oppositions, the president called on the United Nations to delete the names of Taliban leaders from the black list.
On relations with Pakistan, president Karzai said Afghanistan is committed to having brotherly relations with Pakistan.  However, noted that artillery shelling from Pakistan on Afghanistan villages would damage trust between the two nations.

Kabul (BNA) tens of rebels was arrested in several military operations in Afghanistan this morning.  These rebels were arrested in military operations of Afghan and NATO militaries from outskirts of Maiwand district of Kandahar, Syeedkaram district of Paktia and Sharan city center of Kunar province.  NATO press statement said to BNA, these rebels were arrested during terrorist activities.  It is said tens of arms of rebels with quantity of narcotic of them were seized by these forces.  NATO said these rebels are belonged to Taliban group, Haqani network and militias attributed to Islamic Party.  According to this statement, in these operations, the civilians had no causalities.  In another statement, NATO reported from killing of 11 rebels attributed to Haqani network in Ghazni province.  NATO said these rebels were targeted by Afghan and foreign militaries while terrorist activities in the relevant areas of Gelan district and killed.  This operation was launched for arresting of commander of this group but he was not present in the spot.  Tens of heavy and light arms were seized by Afghan and NATO forces in this operation.  This statement said nothing about casualties of Afghan, NATO militaries and civilians in this operation.

NATO soldier killed in Afghanistan

Kabul (BNAS) a NATO soldier was killed in attack of rebels in Afghanistan.  The identity of this foreign military has not clear but he was targeted by rebels during his patrol and lost his live.  NATO press statement confirmed killing of this solider but said nothing about identity and exact areas of this event.  From beginning of the current year till now, nearly 560 foreign militaries in Afghanistan were lost their lives.
